Corralitas Drive: Native Blue Elderberries

Photo: Diane Edwardson, July 14, 2011.  Native Blue Elderberries (Sambucus mexicana) are ripening throughout the neighborhood.  (Click on photo to enlarge.)  Toxicity: If you are eating your way through the Red Car Property, eat at your own risk.   Calflora quotes the California Poison Control System rating the Blue Elderberry plant as  majorly toxic, but the ripe fruit is edible.
