Red Car Property: Native Miner's Lettuce

Photo: Diane Edwardson, January 16, 2012.  Despite the lack of rain, native Miner's Lettuce is sprouting in the slope below Adelbert and among the historic viaduct footings.  (Click on photo to enlarge.) Miner's Lettuce is edible but bitter tasting. It grows well in the shady slopes on the northern end of the Red Car Property.  In the winter, the slopes near the viaduct footings always seem to be
