Doom.The.Movie

Went to watch Doom last Saturday. I had never played the game because I get nausea when playing first-person shooters. Knowing that it is another game-to-silver screen undertaking, I would expect that it followed some of the elements in the game. Well, it did but then ...

I think the message is very clear now - All zombie movies are doomed. I was having high hopes for this one after being disappointed by the other zombie movies but this one is no different either.

The storyline is simple enough. It's a no brainer. Even when the event took place in Mars, there is nothing new to the scenes. Most of the time, you see earth soldiers sent to Mars patrolling corners suspiciously, walking in sewers, clearing rooms and chasing shadows with big guns. And Yes! Guns! This movie is about big boys with big guns and some of them didn't even live long enough to fire them.

Yeah! The soldiers die one-by-one like all zombie movies. The only difference about the zombies is they don't bite and tear the victims' limbs off. They sting the neck and infect the victims with their tongues because they are not really zombies but villain turned monsters with the injection of chromosome 24 - the additional chromosome that is supposed to make us humans become superhumans. When C24 is injected into a good guy, he becomes something like an x-men with super-healing and super-strength. But when injected into a person with bad karma, he turns into a hideous zombie plus the super stuff as well.

The only part I like in the movie was somewhere near the end when the movie reminds us of the game. The camera went into a first-person shooter mode and you can only see Reaper's gun. He moves around the passage ways, turning into corners and firing at zombies. That's the only part where it makes the movie so Doom.

Overall, I'm giving it a 2.5 star and I'm glad the whole movie wasn't in first-person shooter mode. Otherwise, I may lost my lunch watching it.
