Tanjung.Rhu.Part.II

Continue from Part I ....

After I received the 360 from our new MD, I returned to my place and sit there quiet quiet. Well, maybe not that quiet since I was coughing non-stop. My Strepsils all finished liow.

Thinking back about the presentation, I should have increased the font size during dictation and also demonstrate the "MouseGrid" and "Show Numbers" commands. But nevertheless, I think the presentation was good enough to get my colleagues excited about Vista.

The meeting ended in the evening and I have to return to my room to keep my notebook (and my new prized possession too!). I was really excited about the XBOX 360 but didn't want to open it just yet. I just read what is printed on the box to check-out the specifications and to see what was included. I then place it nicely in the cupboard and went downstairs for dinner.

I guessed some of my colleagues were curious as to whether I would sell it. That's because I don't look like a gamer or atleast, they never hear me talking about games. I do have a history of console gaming but I stopped after I started working. I didn't transition into the PS or GameCube era. I think I will keep the 360, afterall, it does have some sentimental value. Besides, it is the coolest thing that anyone could wish for at this point in time.

Dinner was at The Sands restaurant. There are only three places to dine in Tanjung Rhu, The Sands (picture left), Saffron or Rhu restaurant. The Sands offers buffet style dinning, Saffron offers standard dining and Rhu is for fine dining.

I'm a little more visible now after the presentation as colleagues would come by to congratulate me or ask me about the speech recognition in Vista. Of course, there are also some who would inquire about my 360. :p "It doesn't come with games guys!"

I got to know a group of gamers in my company at the dinner and they invited me to join them for an XBOX 360 bash. Guessed it will be a good opportunity for me to learn more about the console. I happily joined them and they provided me with some useful information about the console and games. Apparently, the origin of my machine is from Singapore which means that it is safer for me to get my games there.

We spent the whole night playing Dead or Alive 4. I was figuring out the moves while the guys were enjoying the *bouncy-bouncies* of the female characters in the game. *HeHe*

Tanjung Rhu - Day Two

I had no plans for the day. By the time I woke up, my roommate has already left for golf. Most of the SIG activities were not suitable for me, i.e. I don't golf, don't dive and don't do go-karts. I have watched all the movies that they were going to show and already went for the Eagle-feeding tour. The only one left is XBOX 360 Game Challenge but since I already have one, I could probably play till I drop when I'm back home. So, I have decided to piggy-back on any colleague who is planning to go to town.

Went down for breakfast at .... The Sands (no prize for guessing). Took some pictures on my way there.

A hut by the pool side.

The sandy beach. From here I could see 4 little things moving and I thought they were penguins. On closer inspection, they were actually the beach cleaners clearing out the litters that visitors had left behind.

This cat was enjoying the view and poo-pooing. Caught the fella red-pawed.

A giant jar fountain. I have been watching too many Japanese horror movies so this kinda gives me the creeps.

It is peace and quite at the Saffron during the morning. We will be having our team dinner here at night.

Saffron restaurant. Don't really like it. Read on to see why.

This is a new swimming pool. It wasn't here last year. While the designs were nice, they are actually quite dangerous. A colleague of mine fell by tripping over those gaps (drain) and hurt himself badly.

Another food hut

Some structure in front of the swimming pool.

While selecting my food during breakfast, Poh Sze and Ai Wa pulled me aside to take some pictures with them. I'm still waiting for them to send me the pictures. Then I met Foo Shen who was planning a trip to town later in the afternoon with Shun. They invited me to go along and happily, I accepted their offer.

They couldn't go earlier (like now!!!) because they have signed up for the Eagle-feeding tour. The name of the tour is really misleading as you get to see more than eagles. I shared some of my past experience of the tour with them and I guessed they really had a great time. Check-out this picture from Foo Shen's blog.

I had the same feeling when I passed by that lime formation. I guessed he could depict it better than me.

I went back to my room to download the photos from my camera after they left for the tour. Then I started organizing the photos and deleted the poorer quality ones. After a while, I have made a mess out of the numeric sequence of the photos. Since I have some free time, I fired up Visual Studio 2005 and wrote myself a simple utility to rename all my photos back into sequence. NiCE!

When I'm finished with the program, it was already lunch time. I headed towards the same-old-place again but on the way, I met up with some colleagues and they asked me to join them at the Saffron instead. I was quite bored of the food at The Sands and so, I thought to try out something new. Man! I really regretted it!

I ordered an Oven Baked Spaghetti at 12:45 PM and it was served at 2:00 PM. *Aiyo! Hor Sim Lor!* I really don't know what so special about the spaghetti. Foo Shen called it Mee Goreng Tar-Pao. All my colleagues were complaining already. It was as if every dish is a piece of art that must undergo precisioned assembly or something. Wasted hours in the restaurant waiting for food.

Due to the long wait, we could only start to go to town at 3:00PM and it was like an Amazing Race or Explorace. We hired 2 vans but we didn't have an exact destination to visit. Everyone was offering their ideas, some heard of a place from other colleagues, some wanted to buy liquor and ciggies, and some wanted to buy ikan bilis. Me? I just wanna see what the towns look like.

The drivers also got so confused and they drop us in Langkawi Parade. It says "Mega Mall" but I don't feel it. It has the everyday shops we have in KL.

I managed to catch this while entering the mall. Noticed anything different?

If you thought what you saw was what you saw, then look again. Check Foo Shen's blog to learn more.

After realizing there is nothing much, we relocated again to another place called One Stop Duty Free Shop but somehow, we were given a landmark that it is in (as opposed to near) Plaza Langkawi. Since we only kept one of the vans and there were too many of us, 4 of us had to take a cab. We got a nasty cab driver.

When we were confirming where we wanted to go, he asked us to "Diam!" (Shut-Up!) and when we asked him to wait while we confirm the location with the other group, he scolded us. I cannot imagine such rude cab drivers exist in a tourist destination like Langkawi. We were all very pissed! We paid the @$$ hole and got down.

My shopping mood was ruined. While the others were shopping for booze and ciggies, I went to check-out a game store. It had the XBOX 360 for sale at RM 1,388. I asked about the 360 games and controller but they have neither. In the end, I only managed to get some chocolates for mom and we headed back to the hotel for our department dinners.

This time round we got a very nice cab driver. We called him Pakcik (Uncle) and he was telling us about his life as a cab driver in Langkawi. He was friendly all the way and Foo Shen gave him a tip when we got off.

I went back to my room to sleep for a while and then went down to the Saffron again for dinner. Not many people was there when I arrived, so, I went upstairs to play a game of pool with Keng Leng. When we finished the game it was about 7:00 PM and our colleagues started to come. Knowing that the restaurant is a slow-coach, I quickly adviced Keng Leng to order. We placed the order at about 7:15 PM. Guessed what time we were served? Keng Leng got his food at 9:30PM and I got my freaking Chicken Pizza at 10:00 PM!!!

I think I have wasted almost 5 hours in the restaurant that day. There goes my appointment with the EPG guys. I was supposed to play pool with them. Well, I made it at 10:30 PM, had a few games and went back to sleep at 11:30 PM because I had to catch a flight home the next day.

Overall... it was a nice trip but day two was a little disappointing. Nevertheless, I'm happy to hug my XBOX 360 all the way back from Langkawi to the LCCT :p

[FYI. Both the Tanjung Rhu posts took me 2 days to blog. I started on Saturday and continued on Sunday from 8:00AM morning to 12:00AM midnight. If you enjoyed the posts, please leave some comments. That'll motivate me to write more about my trips in future.]
