The.Last.Remnant.Guide#1

If you need help playing The Last Remnant, here are some resources that may be useful - The Last Remnant FAQs from GameFAQs.

Missable Sidequests

This game has a few missable sidequests that may prevent you from unlocking a number of achievements and also the final boss in its true form (a.k.a Absolute Conqueror). If you are aiming for the achievements (which totals to 400pts), you may want to refer to the sidequest FAQ in the above resource link.

Always Save Your Game

The battles in this game take a long time to win. The last thing you want is to get a game over after an hour of battle. I suggest you use up all the available pages for saving your game. Save frequently so that you can recall previous checkpoints when you missed any sidequests.

Arcana Arts

Learning Arcana Arts can be done quite early in the game. Basically, you cramp 5 units who have Invocation spells into one Union and put them in a formation where 3 or more units are aligned in a row i.e. Belt or Mystic Shield formation. Take note that the leader that you want to learn Arcana must be in position 1.

Try to link as many monsters as possible into battle. Then try to look for the option "Attack with Mystic Arts" to appear and select the one where 3 or more units will be casting a spell. You may need to cycle through each monster union to get the best option.

With any luck, you will be able to get all 3 units to cast at the same time and the word "Synergy" will appear on screen. Your characters will then cast a spell called Blackout that wipes out all weak enemies on screen. At the end of the battle, your leader (at position 1) will learn the Blackout Arcana art.

Here's a video tutorial to show you how to do it incase you don't understand my explanations. However, take note that the so called "Guaranteed" in the video isn't so true. You may need to try it out multiple times (in other places) until you get it.

You can also group Evokers (Whiteout), Healers (Rejuvenating Water), Hexers etc. together to learn other Arcana arts. This is useful in helping you to clear the map so that you don't waste too much time in battle. The only caveat is they have less effect on bosses.

Reviving Fallen Unions

You can revive fallen unions or units with the Vivification Herb item art. You will need units with Item Arts ability to learn it. Take note that in order for units to use Vivification herb, you will need to stock up on Restoleaf and Relaxing Herbs. I recommend purchasing as much of these herbs as possible.

You can also revive fallen unions using Mystic Arts but you will need to level the art high enough to get the Kiss of Life spell.

Torgal is Your Best Friend

As the story progresses, David's four generals will join you and you will also have the ability to hire leaders from guilds. My advice is to use Torgal, the Sovani (4 handed cat fella) as early as possible and ensure that he switches to axes early (either Hawkwind or Cimejes) in the game.

At some point in time, he will learn a very powerful weapon art when he acquires the Halphas Dominus weapon, approximately at Battle Rank 100+-. If you managed to let him switch to axes, he will learn Hawkarang that cause 100,000 (200K -300K on perfect) damage to a single unit - very very useful for bosses.

If you have him use swords, he will have it upgraded to Gremory Dominus and learn Cerulean Rain.

Baulson and Caedmon

If you find that Torgal alone is not powerful enough, you should also recruit Baulson and Caedmon early. Both will learn Heaven's Door weapon art later. Baulson will learn it when he has Shielding Glaive and Caedmon will get it when he has Buer Dominus.

Other characters can learn weapon arts too i.e. Pagus (Daisy Chain, Megalore), Glenys (Swordflash), Khrynia (Demonsblow), Wyngale (Hawkarang).

The Fallen

There is this super monster in the game called 'The Fallen' which unlocks an achievement with 140pts. To unlock this side quest, you need to complete the "Frustrations" side quest on disc one and talk to Wyngale in Baaluk on disc two. However, do not enter the city of Underwalts or this sidequest will vanish.

Grinding

Although this game doesn't have levels for your units but like all RPGs, you can grind for better stats. Whenever you find yourself constantly losing battles, stop trying and go somewhere to grind i.e. Numor Mines on disc one or Ancient Ruins (DLC) on disc two. Grind to a higher level and return for your victory.

Rare Monsters

There are plenty of rare monsters that you need to slay in this game for guild tasks. Check the above FAQ for rare monster spawn patterns to reduce your time. If you can't get a specific spawn pattern, move on to do some other quests first (or switch off your console) and then return later.

Sword of Seven

You will immediately notice that Sword of Seven is listed as one of the most expensive weapon with reasonable high stats on your weapon creation list. However, take note that SoS is not the most powerful weapon/sword in the game (neither is it tied to any achievements).
