Corralitas Drive: Juvenile Alligator Lizard

Photo: Gary Vlahakis, March 3, 2012.  The lizard's body was not quite 2 inches long, but his tail was more than twice as long as his body.  (Click on photo to enlarge.) This appears to be a juvenile Alligator Lizard.  There are many species of Alligator Lizards in California.  Don't ask me which one this is, since juveniles can look very different than adults.  Learn More: California Herps
